The Daily Spam Report 10/29: “Hello Friend”

friendThanks go out to Bob K. in Oregon for providing us with today’s material. It’s an email he got late last week, telling him that he’d been found after “an extensive on-line search” to serve as a conduit for someone who wanted to donate $10,500,000.

I could point out problems that jump out at me like the sender’s email is different from the email he was asked to contact or the fact it’s titled “Dear Friend” to someone the sender’s never met, but I’ll leave it as simply as this.

No one legitimate is going to approach you blindly after finding you online and offer to give you $10,500,000 to donate on your behalf. That’s just not going to happen.

Thanks for sending this over to me, Bob. Neither of us want anyone else to fall for this.

Take care,
