The Daily Spam Report 10/28: “Greetings from Syria”

As a reporter who regularly reads a dozen newspapers and news web sites to start every day, an email titled, “Greetings from Syria” is bound to get my attention.

However, instead of sharing with me the story of a Wisconsin student, business executive or non-profit worker doing their best to help mitigate the harms of that country’s civil war, I received the email posted below.

I am appreciative that Dr. Abdul Basit (or whatever the sender’s real name is) is compassionate enough to wish a “complement of the day” to me and my loved ones, there’s no good that can come from this.

The moral of today’s Spam Report is that a former top adviser to a politician in Syria will not send you a note out of the blue wanting to discuss business opportunities. It’s not going to happen.

So, please don’t fall for this.

Take care,

Complement of the day to you and your love ones

This is my second time of writing to you without reply. And some thing made me to contact you.

My name is Dr.Abdul Basit from Damascus Syria. I am now 64 years old and retired. I was former personal investor & financial consultant advisers to a Top Politician here in SYRIA.

Why I’m contacting you is to know if we can have a personal conversation regarding business opportunities in your country.

Whatever information you may brief me will be highly appreciated. Tell me more about your country, how good it will be to invest in your country, in the area of properties investments, real estate or any profitable investment venture that will yield good profit.

I will appreciate whatever information you may brief me. Do let me know your idea and knowledge regarding this or any other profitable investment venture you may suggest.

I have set aside a reasonable amount of money, which i am willing to invest in your country, if we can have a mutual understanding for a profitable business venture. Upon your response I shall tell you more about myself.

You may as well tell me more about yourself when replying my email.

Waiting for your reply.

Thanks and best regards,
Dr. Abdulbasit.
